Congratulations to Miss America 2010, Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron. Caressa is a 22 year-old Broadcast Journalism major (showowt Broadcast!) from Fredricksburg, Virginia (shoutowt DMV!). Having won the crown over 52 other contestants tonight in Las Vegas, she will be awarded a $50,000 scholarship.

Here's Caressa singing Beyonce's "Listen" for her talent. Um... Let's just say Caressa honey, you could've practice that some more. You're ending was good, though! Ha... Let's talk about it.

Serena does it again!

Saturday, Serena Williams beat Justine Henin in with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory.
This win makes for Serena's 12th Grand Slam title. She fought through pain for this win, too, with her right thigh and left knee wrapped as they have been for weeks.

Serena talks about the pep-talks she had to give herself in the middle of her battle with Henin:
“I thought I was just giving her too many points,” she said. “She was playing well, but I knew I could play better so I literally told myself, ‘I need to man up.’ ”

I think this match and how she carried herself helped clean up her image from last year's US Open. She was fined $92,000 for losing her temper during a semifinal match, for those of you who don't remember.

WPGC ...changed [ f o r e v e r ]. Farewell Donnie Simpson!

I know I'm not the only one who listened to the Donnie Simpson Morning Show on their way to school every morning...for years."The Donnie Simpson show. Donnie Simpson show...Donnie in the mooorrning. Get up!  Everybody Get up!" "DONNIE! ... DONNIE!" Accompanied with, before he left for rival station WKYS, Huggy Lowdown. This past Friday, 1.29, was Donnie Simpson's last day on the waves. Donnie has been one of the most endeared DJ's for over 30 years, beginning his career in Detroit at the age of 15... it's so sad to see him go.  

It doesn't come to a surprise that his career comes to a halt by fighting to keep his originality. 

Lately radio stations have being do something called syndication, which basically means that DJ's are broadcasting in several locations simultaneously. Tom Joyner and Steve Harvey are syndicated DJ's, as they are broadcasted here in the DMV and in several other southern states.

Beyond that primary issue, the station's directors wanted to change Donnie's playlist. They wanted him to stick to a certain lists of songs and that's it. Well, that's not Donnie's style. He's known for supporting and endorsing new artists looking for a way into the industry.  As a matter of fact, Donnie hosted BET's "Video Soul"from 1983 to 1996, which was a show that highlighted music videos by African-American artists when MTV wouldn't play anything but white rock and pop musicians.

AND GUESS WHAT!?! According to the Washington Post, one of the production assistants, DJ Rico, was fired on Thursday for playing a list of songs Donnie wanted broadcasted that hadn't been improved. Donnie wasn't on air Thursday because he was protesting the termination.

Regardless of the fact, WKYS, WPGC, WHUR, etc. are all under  Radio One. They're all run by the same people, giving the same stuff. There's no difference in the artists or the music. No variety. No diversity. And if Kathty Hughes don't SHUT UP with her "Reality Radio."

I support Donnie 100 percent! He stood up for what he believed in.  At one point during the finale show Donnie said, "I believe in local... It saddens me that radio has become this homogenized thing." He also said, "It's just a different time now. I have to do it the way I do it. It's Donnie Simpson. It's my brand, and I won't compromise it." Thats RIGHT! Ha, Let's talk about it.

A lot of people called in wishing him their best wishes including Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Wyclef, LL Cool J, John Legend, and Toni Braxton. If you were listening, Mr. President Obama even sent his blessings!

CBS Radio contract prohibits Donnie from being on Washinton's radio waves until March 2011, but he says that he doesn't plan on retiring and this isn't the end of his career (without mentioning his future endeavors).

I love you Donnie! You've been a great influence and role model for my ventures into Broadcast. I wish you the best and I'm sure you'll continue to do great things.

Yup, that was ya girl, Olivia, former First Lady of G-Unit. She left ....well, she was released from G-unit in 2008, when 50 cent claimed Missy Elliot had gotten in the way of Olivia's projects and created some issues. "She went to work with Missy and it got kinda crazy like,” 50 Cent said during an interview with Angie Martinez on Hot 97. “It got crazy because Missy was trying to own her a little bit… I think Missy hit that."

ANWAYS, she's back... with a vengeance it seems. Olivia is rocking the cover of City Scenes Magazine. She has a new cut and a MUCH classier and chic style. I love it. She looks great. Matter of fact, I didn't even recognize her until I saw her name.

She recently got signed to Universal/Motown and her album is due to come owt in March.  She's got big names on it like Neyo, Brian Micheal Cox, and guess who? Lls... Missy Elliot!  Oh and get this... she's going to be "starring" on Jim Jones' upcoming reality show on VH1.  Mmm.. I've gotta look into that one -- wonder how that'll work.

Soooo apparently there's a website where you can just put you and your ex on blast and explain the various details on how you dumped him/her. Well...not THAT much on blast because one of the site's rules is that you can't use real names.

It's called uBUH, which they admit is "another awesome acronym for another pretty much pointless website." It stands for "You Broke Up How?" I was looking through some of the entries and it looks like there's anybody and everybody on there. They have random breakups, popular breakups, and you can rate whether you feel bad for the person or if it's just plain funny.

Lls. Some of them are pretty funny, though.

School has started... & so have the parties!

My first day of my last spring semester! WOW.
Warm day. Interesting classes... Started off fairly well, if I may say so myself.
But with college everyone knows there are parties.
As I mentioned, I'm a Broadcast Journalism major at University of Maryland, College Park.
Yeah so... terps get it in!!! lls.

here we go again...

So... school starts tomorrow.
I dont know how smart it was to start my blog simultaneously with school but, oh well!
My first class starts earlier than I like it to -- everyone knows I try not to do [ a n y t h i n g ] before 12.

I've spent my winter break well though. This was the first winter I didn't take classes and actually got to take a break!  Thank God for my wonderful trip to Freeport, Grand Bahamas. Finally got a chance to breathe!

In the mix of my school, work, and whatever else schedule I have, sometimes it gets hard to simply breathe.  So that's my biggest goal for myself ... just breathe!! Most things just aren't THAT serious. If it happens, it happens and if it doesn't ... eff it. On to the next one!

I've been reading this book Happiness by Matthieu Ricard, a Buddhist monk who once was a VERY successful cellular genetics doctor in France, but moved to the Himalayas to study Buddhism. It's crazy inspirational and just speaks a LOT of common sense. I think from now on I'll start my blogs off with a motivating quote or excerpt from it.  But anyways, yeah ... thats the second goal ... to be genuinely happy.

There's so many people that claim happiness, but #wholetime have no CLUE what it is. Ha. "Let's talk about it." Hmm.. maybe I should enlighten. Earlier than I thought with the excerpt...
